From the Pastor's
Desk;
1Some time after this,
Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the
Sea of Tiberias), 2and a great crowd of people followed him because
they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick. 3Then
Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples.
4The Jewish Passover Feast was near.
5When Jesus looked up and
saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall
we buy bread for these people to eat?" 6He asked this only to test
him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7Philip answered him,
"Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have
a bite!"
8Another of his
disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, 9"Here is a boy
with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will
they go among so many?"
10Jesus said, "Have the
people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the
men sat down, about five thousand of them. 11Jesus then took the
loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as
much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12When they had all had
enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are
left over. Let nothing be wasted." 13So they gathered them and
filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left
over by those who had eaten.
14After the people saw
the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this
is the Prophet who is to come into the
world."
John 6:1-14 NIV
While serving as a crew chief at World Changers, I awoke
early Thursday morning worried about whether our crew could finish
the roof that we were working on that week. Wednesday are only half
day of work and the other half church group time. In the first two
and a half days, our crew had only removed and replaced the shingles
on half the roof. As I lay in my cot, I was a little aggravated
that I was tired but could not sleep. I was a good bit worried
about finishing the task as well.
I began talking with the Lord about this roof. I
thought, “Lord, if we can remove the shingles off the front side of
the house today and get the decking and tar paper on it, I think we
can get this roof done by Friday afternoon.” Of course, the thought
also occurred to me that this would be a small miracle. We had not
moved quite that fast on the back half, and it was raining every
afternoon.
The Lord is so often very gracious to us. I cannot think
of a single reason the Lord might help me get a roof done on World
Changers unless it was to help the young people. However, He
quietly brought these verses to my mind. If He can multiply a boy’s
lunch to feed a crowd of 5,000 or more, He can multiply anything,
even the efforts of a World Changer crew.
I ask you this question: What might you give the Lord
that He can multiply and use for His glory? Could you invite an
un-churched friend to Friendship Connection on Nov. 2? Could you
say a small prayer for this friend once a day? Maybe you could even
make a friend and invite him or her to Friendship Connection Day?
The Lord reminded me on a Thursday morning in Greenville, SC, that
He is certainly not limited to only lunch on a
hillside.

Samaritan’s

We had a great luncheon
